Preparing yourself for a consult

Hiring a designer to create your space can be overwhelming, nerve-wracking, and exciting all at the same time! We understand that letting someone into your home can bring high emotions and that is okay. We’re here to help! Here are some things to consider when having a designer come into your home for a consultation.

List your Household wants & Needs

Make a list of wants & needs for your household’s desired space. Consider your household’s daily routines and find ways to simplify them. For example, if you have an entryway cluttered with shoes, a need would be storage; and you want it to be enclosed.

Do Not hide Routine Clutter

You can clean, but please do not de-clutter necessary routine items prior to a designer coming into your home. Designers want to see what is currently working for you in your home and what is not. De-cluttering routine items can hide these issues because it is not how you live day-to-day. Designers understand that you asked us to come out for a reason, so do not be afraid to show us what items frustrate you!

Pinterest Boards

Have a Pinterest board ready to show your designer! Pinterest can be useful for both you and your designer. It gives you and your designer an idea of what you want your space to look like without having to describe every detail. Please note that certain aspects about Pinterest are completely custom cabinets and accessories, so not everything you see online can be re-created. This is something that you can discuss with your designer during the designing phase.

Ballpark Budget

Have an idea of your budget. Designers need to know a ballpark of your total budget; this narrows down the cabinet lines, finishes, construction, accessories, etc. If you are wanting selections such as tile, countertop, hardware, etc. Your designer needs to give an allowance to each selection to keep within your budget along with your cabinetry. Knowing your budget can shorten the final design phase because there aren’t any cabinet adjustments needed to save on budgeting.

Provide Samples of Your Chosen Selections

If you have your own selections picked out for your space already, fantastic! Signature Cabinet Studio will work with any selections that you have. If you can, provide your designer a sample of each selection. Designers will ensure that all your items in your space coordinate together. Designers prefer samples in person because they can touch and visually see in different lighting that they coordinate; online samples do not allow a designer to do this.
