Roll Out Trays vs Drawers
When dreaming of your dream space, smaller details such as roll out trays and drawers are often overlooked. Roll out trays and drawers both have their own benefits and disadvantages to ponder about before deciding which option will work best for you in your elevated space.
Roll Trays are considered a cabinet accessory when looking at the interior of a cabinet. This is because they are versatile and often not fixed in the same location in each cabinet. Roll out trays are most commonly used for storing pots and pans for easy accessibility. They can be installed at pre-determined heights within the cabinet, they can be ordered with different heights to store different products and can offer different types of organizing systems. They can come in either wood (left) or metal (right) depending on your needs. Roll trays have a scoop on the front of the drawer to allow for your hand to fit to pull the tray out; hardware cannot be installed on the face of these because they may not allow for the door to properly shut.

Drawers are another useful and very common way for easy accessibility. You may opt for drawers due to their “one-step Process.” They only have to open the drawer, rather than opening a door and then pulling the drawer out. Drawers are chosen over roll trays because you may have more options for interior modifications such as cutlery dividers, knife blocks, and peg systems to keep your drawers organized. Hardware can be installed directly onto the face of the drawer as well, making it easier for you to pull open if your hands are full! Drawers have 3 different drawer size height options for standard cabinets which are 2 drawers, 3 drawers, and 4 drawers (Pictured Below). Some cabinet lines may offer different specialty drawers such as a pantry base, if this is something that you are wanting to have in your new elevated space; please discuss this with your designer so they can select the appropriate cabinet line to fit your needs!

There are common aspects between both the roll out trays and drawers. They both have a dovetail drawer construction. This is a high quality construction that can endure a lot of normal wear and tear without sacrificing the integrity of your chosen drawer. They both come standard with soft close which is a bonus for households that have members that are rough with drawers. Roll out trays and drawers can be made to fit in custom sized spaces for an additional cost from the manufacturer, and they can be installed and used for your sink or cooktop base, depending on the manufacturer you select!
roll-out trays and drawers come with their own advantages and disadvantages. Ultimately, the best choice depends on how you use your space and what suits your needs the most! You might find that using both is the best solution for you, and that’s perfectly fine! Many people enjoy combining both options to suit different areas of their space.
