Retainers
Retainers are a vital part of the design process. A retainer is a fancy word for 'deposit' in the design industry. It is a work-for-hire contract meaning that the client has reserved times for the future when the designer's services are needed. This guarantees that both parties want to proceed with the design work!
What is the purpose of a retainer?
A retainer is used to compensate for your designers time and any initial expenses while designing your space. This is often used to discuss the plans or scope of work needed to complete the project, ensure that your designer will allot the appropriate amount of time spent on your designed space, and to commit to ordering cabinets with our company. The retainer from Signature Cabinet Studio is applied to the final cost of your cabinetry, making it an investment in your completed home rather than an additional expense.
What is the retainer used for?
This written documentation confirms your commitment to the project, secures your spot with a designer and their services, and establishes clear expectations for both parties. We understand that making a significant financial commitment can be challenging, which is why we have this retainer in place. It ensures that our time and effort are valued, while you have written documentation of all the services that your designer is going to provide for you.
What if I do not agree with part of the retainer agreement?
If you don't agree with sections of the retainer, discuss the details that you don’t agree upon with your designer. We calculate retainers by the scope of work needed, the amount of rooms, and the amount of time and effort put into the preliminary design work. This contract can be adjusted as discussed and agreed upon with the homeowner, but we will not negotiate waiving the entire retainer amount. Once everything has been agreed upon, you will receive a copy of the signed retainer for your home and use.
Retainers are used to protect you and your designer from any miscommunications that were discussed early on in your project. This ensures that all communication and negotiation between you and your designer are meeting your expectations. All retainers are used to invest in your project; which is what we love about our retainers!
